Blog Tour- Homesick, Jennifer Croft

It is my pleasure to be on the tour for this read.

Pairing up the plot:

Sisters Amy and Zoe grow up in Oklahoma where they are home schooled for an unexpected reason: Zoe suffers from debilitating and mysterious seizures, spending her childhood in hospitals as she undergoes surgeries. Meanwhile, Amy flourishes intellectually, showing an innate ability to glean a world beyond the troubles in her home life, exploring that world through languages first. Amy's first love appears in the form of her Russian tutor Sasha, but when she enters university at the age of 15 her life changes drastically and with tragic results.

Bobs and Books honest review:

This feels very detached for a memoir, so its very easy to forget that it is one. The storytelling was poignant, compelling and the relationship of the family was incredibly powerful and moving.

Stylistically, I wasn't a fan of the chapter headers, and I don't love 2nd person POV but was willing to overlook those things on the strength of the story and the character relationships.

I felt like I was going on a journey with the sisters every step of the way, and experienced their heartache with them. The short sharp chapters make them incredibly hard hitting and more impactful which adds to the journey they go on.

A thoughtful read.
